 SAS Performing Arts Vocal Competition: Opera Division 2nd Annual Vocal Competition

Our company's mission is to focus on creating and helping to support developmental opportunities for emerging artists to study. To achieve that, we have instituted a competition for artists in the performing arts. Artists will compete for study and incentive awards. The complete submission process will be online to allow for COVID-19-related restrictions.

 

COMPETITION REQUIREMENTS

ELIGIBILITY

  • The competition is open to all performers.

  • The performer's challenge: present to the judges a proper technique, an understanding of the text, and style of the selection through their understanding of the music and lyrics.

  • There is no age limit.

APPLICATION & FEES*

  • June 1, 2021 - August 15, 2021 : $ 40   Early Application Fee* - DATE HAS PASSED

  • August 16, 2021 - October 3, 2021 :  $50 Application Fee*  DATE EXTENDED TILL OCTOBER 3

 

*All application fees are non-refundable.

HOW TO APPLY

  • Complete the online application

  • The application cut off date is OCTOBER 3, 2021.

FIRST ROUND

  • Attach three (3) audio complete arias, in three different languages (one being English), accompanied by piano. No excerpts accompanied by orchestra or excerpts from live performances will be accepted.  The submission should be a good quality audio recording (mp3 format preferably), demonstrating the applicant’s vocal skill.   No Video Recording will be accepted for the first round.

  •  Each selection should be provided as a separate upload and include piano accompaniment.

  • No repertoire changes are allowed after submission materials are received by SAS Performing Arts Company and Studios, Inc.

  • Selections must be well-recorded and clear. A recording that is not clear cannot be judged.

  • Your most recent headshot and resume must be downloaded.

  • Please process the application fee online.

SEMI-FINALS

  • The Semi-finalists will be announced by email, on social media on October 12, 2021.

  • Each semi-finalist will be invited to submit:

    • Three (3) video recordings in keeping with the repertoire requirements, as noted above. These video submissions may be the same selections as you submitted for the first round. For the Semi-finals, you are free to submit other pieces if you would like.

    • A 250-300 word biography.

  • These materials must be uploaded to SAS Performing Arts, through our website, no later than Sunday October 31, 2021 by 11:59pm. 

  • All Semi-Finalists are hereby informed that we may use their video, biography, and headshot in our publicity and promotional material.

  • If materials are not received by the cut off date, participants will be disqualified from the competition.

FINALS

  • Finalists will be announced by email, on our social media pages, and in a press release no later than November 10, 2021. All finalists will be featured on our social media and website leading up to our final round.

  • If required, there will be a final round of competition, via Zoom, for the finalists to sing for the judges on November 20, 2021. 

  • The final concert, held November 21, 2021, will be a streamed concert of our finalists. (The finals will be held virtually due to current COVID-19 pandemic). 

  • The winners are announced at the end of the Concert.
