Staged Musical Storytelling

SAS Performing Arts creates a lively and welcoming community when our stage shines, featuring legendary, classic, and modern works in an intimate environment of staged musical storytelling.

Over the years, our performances have featured well-known masterpieces by Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, Wagner, and Sondheim, as well as works that deserve more attention, such as Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti, Menotti’s Old Maid and the Thief, and Puccini’s Il Trittico, a rarely performed evening of three one-act operas. This dedication makes our company stand out and attracts lovers of the Lyric Theater. We aim to provide a high-quality, enriching experience you can count on.
SAS brings this artform to people who might not otherwise see live shows, enriching our community’s culture. Our mainstage makes theater more accessible. We want the connection between music, words, and drama to feel stronger in our close, welcoming space.

We showcase emerging artists alongside professional opera singers. Our season includes full operas, scenes from our ROLE Institutes Opera Act-by-Act program, events for young audiences, and solo recitals, all promising memorable experiences. SAS brings opera to the community, enriching local culture. All operas are performed in their original languages. The close setting strengthens the connection between music, words, and drama. Events like our "Sondheim Tribute Revue" highlight the talents of new and experienced performers as they present selections from Sondheim's famous Broadway works.

The annual SAS Vocal Competition is a top event for young singers. In the past six years, our talented winners have debuted with leading companies like the Paris Opera, Washington Concert Opera, La Grange Festival, Glyndebourne Opera Festival, San Francisco Opera, Sarasota Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Berlin Opera, and the Metropolitan Opera. Our judges include some of the most respected names in opera, such as Latonia Moore, KS Tichina Vaughn, Luana DeVol, Anthony Laciura, Amy Johnson, Vernon Hartmann, Deborah Surdi, and Mary Pinto.
