Dramatic Workshop: Script Analysis

This workshop is a specialized script analysis class in conjunction with building a character from the text. 

We will analyze the structure and related elements of the text, and then explore the various choices that

the actor might select and which could be made when playing the scene in performance.

 

Every actor should become a detective and look for clues, that lie in the script, buried in the text by the author.  By the end of this workshop  you will be able to solve the problem by being simply answering

the following questions:

WHO, WHAT,WHERE, WHEN, and WHY?

Participants will study the script from many different perspectives such as historical, the genre of the work, and the linear curves of the drama.  The course begins with a very brief history of theatrical styles as well as to the method used to break down the script.The workshop will include:

  • Intensive analysis of

    • monologues and scenes (Excerpts chosen from Classic, Literary, and more current works)

    • Participants are assigned appropriate scenes to study, analyze, and discuss each week.

Instructor: Stephen Anthony

Stephen Anthony is a musicologist, conductor and director. Mr. Scovasso has directed many fully staged operas including Carmen, Tosca, La Bohème, and Cosi fan Tutte. He has directed musicals such as Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd, Into the Woods and Bernstein’s Candide as well as Garcia Lorca’s La Casa del Bernarda Alba, Oscar Wilde’s Salome and Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. He has taught at Arizona State University and created a course on the music of Stephen Sondheim

The participants obligation is for the full time period of the workshop. All payments for workshops are non-refundable except in the event of a workshop cancellation.
If you need to cancel a workshop or workshop session, for any reason, you must notify us by email no later than one week before the workshop or workshops session is scheduled. If you discontinue any workshop before the ending date of the session, you forfeit the deposit amount.
