American Musical Theater Workshop

Curtain Up!

This class introduces participants to the foundational techniques and comprehensive disciplines required for interpreting the musical theatre song repertoire. The class objective is to provide exposure to the many layers of a lyric, the style of the musical score, and character analysis necessary for the successful interpretation by the performer. Class material chosen will be decided by you and the faculty that are individually considered appropriate for the professional and aspiring singing actors.

The workshop includes:

  • Intensive study (with piano) of repertoire selected from the Songbook of The American Musical Theatre featuring composers and lyricists such as Rodgers and Hammerstein, Lerner and Lowe, Bernstein, Styne, Sondheim, Herman, Kander and Ebb, Lloyd-Weber, Schwartz, Flaherty and Ahern, Larsen, and Tesori.

  • Repertory is carefully selected based on voice type and experience level
