SAS PERFORMING ARTS CONCERT OPERA
SAS Concert Opera focuses its efforts to promote the operatic art form by bringing this music, in a concert format, to audiences that might not have the opportunity to attend and enjoy live opera, thus enriching the community's cultural life. Our concert format, accompanied by either a chamber orchestra or a piano in conjunction with the use of supertitles, makes the intricate operatic art form more accessible to our audience. We hope the exhilarating connection generated between the music, text, and drama becomes more immediate in an intimate, up-close environment.
We are a home for performances of acknowledged masterpieces as well as the rarely performed works that deserve a more extensive hearing. SAS Concert Opera introduces the brilliant talents of emerging artists, together with professional opera singers, in wide-ranging operatic repertoire. Participants from SAS Opera Studio are considered for roles in these productions, which will enable them to perform and perfect their craft.
We open dress rehearsals to school students to experience theater that, in many cases, is the first introduction to this art form. At the end of these rehearsals, students participate in a question and answer session with members of the cast.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have suspended our concert schedule thru December 2020.
We are hopeful that the new year brings a level of security that allows us to resume our scheduled operas. We are exploring the option of an online virtual concert production of one-act operas by composers like Mozart, Donizetti, Wolf-Ferrari, Menotti, and Bernstein, that require smaller casts. Please join our mailing list to be the first to be contacted on our plans for the future.
